Rosi Keeps Title With a Decision

Gianfranco Rosi of Italy maintained his International Boxing Federation super-welterweight championship with a 12-round split decision over Gilbert Dele of France at Monte Carlo.
Rosi, 35, had a 114-111 edge from American judge Dan O’Neil and a 116-114 margin from Helmut Mohmert of Germany. Torben Hansen of Denmark scored it 114-113 in favor of Dele.
Rosi (56-3) defended his IBF crown for the ninth time since he became champion in July of 1989. He came into the fight weighing 152 1/4 pounds.
Dele (35-2-1), one-time World Boxing Assn. champion, weighed 153 1/4.
