** 1/2 The Stairs, “Mexican R’N’B,” Go! Discs/London. The title’s a spoof of the Who’s old “Maximum R&B;” slogan, the first song, “Weed Bus,” is a slight rewrite of the Who’s “Magic Bus,” and that’s all you really need to know about this album of loving, winking re-creations of ‘60s garage sounds centered on Edgar Summertyme’s gruff vocals. Fun, but a bit pointless.
Albums are rated on a scale of one asterisk (poor) to four (excellent).
