The Press : Waiting for Perot--Not!
Cartoonists around the globe are puzzling over the Ross Perot phenomenon. Like American pundits, they wonder how a billionaire from Texas could get so far, so fast with his write-in presidential campaign.
Maybe it’s the money, suggests a South African newspaper. Or just good old flag-waving, suggests a Canadian pen wielder. It seems you can’t see the major-party candidates for all the Stars and Stripes.
Or how about this one, marvels the Brisbane Courier-Mail: How could Perot triumph in the California primary--where he was the people’s choice at exit polls even though not on the ballot--without even getting into the political boxing ring, so to speak?
President Bush and Democratic challenger Bill Clinton are wondering the same thing.
Everyone will have to wait until November, though, to see who scores the final knockout.
