Tim Sweeney, basketball coach at Lakewood High, has been suspended from all coaching duties for most of the 1992-93 school year for violating the Southern Section’s undue influence rule.
Sweeney, 49, will be allowed to return to the team after the first round of Moore League play.
In a meeting of Moore League principals Monday, it was found that Sweeney sent a hand-written note to an eighth-grade player in the Long Beach Jordan High district last April, urging the player to attend Lakewood. Jordan Coach Ron Massey turned in the letter to the Southern Section office.
