Spirit Wins Third National Cup Game

Krista Broughton and Rhonda Partida scored first-half goals as the Fountain Valley Spirit beat Washington, 2-0, Monday at the Western Regionals of the National Cup girls’ soccer tournament in Golden, Colo.
Broughton scored from about 18 yards out 17 minutes into the half, and Partida scored from about 40 yards about three minutes later. Kathy Skogland had six saves for the shutout.
Fountain Valley is 3-0 in the tournament and takes on Idaho (0-3) today in the final game of pool play. With a victory or a tie, the Spirit would advance to the championship round this afternoon.
