An 88-year-old woman whose robe was in flames was saved Monday morning by a security officer driving by on his way to work.
Sarah Ana Klenhans was cooking in her mobile home when her robe caught fire, and she ran outside for help. John Boissonnealt, 46, who was driving by, immediately stopped and made her roll on the ground to extinguish the flames.
Klenhans was in fair condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange with second- and third-degree burns over 15% of her body, hospital spokeswoman Fran Tardiff said.
Boissonnealt, who works for Bel Air Patrol, said he saw Klenhans run out of the mobile home and thought she was going to pick up a newspaper.
“When she turned around, I could see her whole right side in flames,” said Boissonnealt, who suffered minor burns. “She was lucky I was a little late for work.”
The former serviceman said he knew what to do because of his training with the Army and his current job.
“We have to be prepared for anything,” Boissonnealt said.
