RV Resort Misstated

Opponents of the proposed RV resort at Port Hueneme Beach have greatly distorted facts in an attempt to prevent approval of the resort. Recent press coverage stated that the Sierra Club, among other groups, was fencing off areas of Ormond and Hueneme Beach to protect the nesting areas of the Least Tern. No area of Hueneme Beach (including proposed RV site) was fenced. The area fenced was at Ormond Beach, a distance from the Port Hueneme city limits. Was it coincidental the groups chose this particular time to publicize the Least Tern?
There is no wetland area at the proposed site. Approximately one half of the site has been an asphalted beach parking lot for 10 years, with no complaints from nearby residents about vehicles parking on it. If the current City Council had not had the foresight to redevelop the entire beach area, there would be no Surfside Condominiums. Those homeowners are now zealously trying to impose their selfish interests on the rest of the city and prevent any further development of “their” beach.
