Kim Zmeskal of Houston became a double winner as the World Gymnastics Championships ended in Paris on Sunday.
The 4-foot-7 Zmeskal, 16, upset defending champion Svetlana Boguinskaia of the former Soviet Union in the balance beam Sunday after winning the floor exercise on Saturday.
“She’s still a very good gymnast, no doubt about it,” Bela Karolyi, Zmeskal’s coach, said of Boguinskaia. “But I still believe her best time is over.”
Boguinskaia is 19, considered old for a gymnast.
