Otto Becker of Germany and his mare, Leandra, earned the first blue ribbon in the 15th World Cup final for horse show jumpers at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Becker and Leandra cleared all eight barriers in the jumpoff in 33.30 seconds to gain a 1.08-second decision over runner-up Eddie Macken of Ireland riding Bon Heur. Terry Rudd was the only American to earn a ribbon. She rode Alf to third place with a clear jumpoff round in 39.26 seconds.
