OUTLOOK
Marina slumped from a 5-A division championship in 1990 to a last-place finish in the league in 1991. Marina had a decent preseason, finishing 9-5, but managed to win only two league games. “We had all new players last year, and we didn’t get the leadership or play as a team,” Renfrow said. “None of our pitchers had varsity experience last year, and we didn’t get any consistency on the mound.” Marina enters the 1992 season with two experienced left-handed pitchers--St. George and Connors--and an all-senior outfield of Jackson in left, Della Croce in center and Anderson in right. Della Croce and Anderson were a successful pass-and-catch combination on Marina’s football team. They are expected to add some punch to a weak lineup that batted only .256 last season. Renfrow has only six seniors on the team--the three starting outfielders and Connors, Farnum and St. George pitching--so the Vikings are virtually starting over this year. “Our three best players are in the outfield,” Renfrow said.
