OUTLOOK
Glascoe and Ward form the best pitching combination in the league and are among the best in the county. Glascoe was 5-5 with a 2.20 earned-run average and Ward was 4-3 with 1.80 ERA last year. “Our pitchers are not strikeout guys, but they do get a lot of ground-ball outs,” Dodd said. Clark was a first-team all-league designated hitter, batting .410. Feathers was a second-team all-league infielder, batting .320. “We’ve got hitters, but we’re going to need to get run production from our outfield,” Dodd said. “This is a veteran ballclub with good pitching and a strong bench. Team speed is our biggest weakness.” Moutrey is a transfer from Bellflower. During last week’s warm weather, Dodd ran on the beach during his lunch breaks. “A fat guy in a baseball uniform just doesn’t look right,” he said. Dodd, after seeing rival Ocean View Coach Steve Barrett in the Oilers’ faculty lounge on the first day of school following a district transfer: “Is somebody trying to tell me something?”
