Suspended Coach Allowed Back at Newport Harbor

Newport Harbor girls’ basketball Coach Shannon Jakosky, suspended Tuesday by the Southern Section for scheduling a game-film session with her players last Sunday, will be allowed to continue coaching without further penalty, Newport Harbor Athletic Director Eric Tweit said Wednesday.
Upon reading about the Sunday meeting in a newspaper story Tuesday morning, Newport Harbor principal Dennis Evans notified section officials. Tweit said section officials initially recommended a one-year suspension, but later came into agreement with Evans that, due to the apparent unintentional nature of the violation, Jakosky should only be suspended for the remainder of the season.
As it turned out, that meant one game, as Newport Harbor was eliminated by Brea-Olinda, 63-50, in the Division III-AA semifinals Tuesday night.
