Arabs, Israelis Disagree on Site of Future Talks

WASHINGTON — Israelis and Arabs, on the final day of their fourth round of peace talks, Wednesday failed to agree on where to meet next, with Arabs rejecting Israel’s demand to move the negotiations closer to the Middle East.
Secretary of State James A. Baker III began a series of meetings with the heads of all the delegations to the talks and urged them to put the dispute behind them.
“He stressed to them and urged them to work on this venue question and let’s try and get this resolved . . . ,” said State Department spokeswoman Margaret Tutwiler.
Israel held a meeting with the joint Jordanian-Palestinian delegation to discuss the issue of the site before beginning its final separate negotiating sessions with Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and the Palestinians.
