SAN DIEGO : Drug House Near School Protested

About 200 parents, children, teachers and neighbors protested Wednesday in front of an empty house allegedly used by drug dealers to sell crack cocaine near Martin Luther King Elementary School.

The protesters lined both sides of 32nd Street, between Market Street and Island Avenue, and called for an end to drug dealing near the school, at 415 31st St. The protest was organized by Eddie Edwards, an art instructor at the school.

Edwards, 48, said he attended King as a child.

“It’s depressing to see the neighborhood going downhill,” he said. “It is more depressing to see the children walk around needles and other drug paraphernalia when going to school.”
