He also was editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of the American Judicial System, a three-volume series of essays published in 1987. His bibliography of the American Constitution was published by Salem Press last year.

An Occidental spokeswoman said Janosik fell ill during the holidays and did not return to school after the New Year. A friend of Janosik’s, Deborah Smith, the music librarian at Occidental, said Janosik died of AIDS.

He is survived by his parents, Stephen and Josephine Janosik of Fountain Valley; a sister, Donna, of Martha’s Vineyard; a brother, Richard, of Lake Mills, Wis., and his longtime companion, Kerry Norwalk of Corona del Mar.
