Video Rental Chart : ‘Thelma & Louise’ Riding High

“Double Impact,” Jean Claude van Damme’s latest action-adventure, is doing terrific rental business, jumping from No. 14 to No. 6 in its third week on the Billboard magazine chart. But it’s probably no threat to “Thelma & Louise,” which seems secure in its No. 1 slot--at least for another week or two. “Pure Luck,” the buddy comedy starring Danny Glover and Martin Short, seems to have peaked at last week’s No. 10 entry position. This week it slipped to No. 12. “Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man,” starring Don Johnson and Mickey Rourke, debuted at No. 15, but judging from its meager box-office take, it’s not a strong candidate for the Top 10.

* Considering the great expectations for “Don’t Tell Mom . . .” last summer, its $25-million gross was a disappointment. Christina Applegate, the teen sexpot on TV’s “Married . . . With Children,” is the big attraction of this “Home Alone”-inspired movie. This could be a big rental hit, having shot up to No. 11 in two weeks.

Rank Weeks Last on the Week Chart 1. “Thelma & Louise” 1 8 2. “The Rocketeer” 3 3 3. “Regarding Henry” 5 3 4. “Point Break” 2 6 5. “Hot Shots” 4 4 6. “Double Impact” 14 3 7. “Mobsters” 6 4 8. “City Slickers” 7 13 9. “Jungle Fever” 8 6 10. “Dying Young” 9 7 * “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” 38 2
