‘91-92 The Year In Review. Los Angeles County: A Look Back : FILM CAPITAL

Sept. 12, 1991, was the day movie publicists got away with murder by persuading Mayor Tom Bradley to proclaim “Freddy Krueger Day” in Los Angeles. The tribute to the fictional serial killer of the “Nightmare on Elm Street” movie series brought screams from some who were horrified by the city’s stamp of approval on a mass murderer, even one made in Hollywood. Bradley signed the proclamation in part because the film company shot the movie series entirely in Los Angeles. One Los Angeles school official said the mayor would be better off promoting “someone children can look up to.”
