Re “TRW Agrees to Improve Credit Reports,” Dec. 11:
Do you suppose that there is a federal agency like the Federal Trade Commission that could impose a similar requirement on the IRS?
The IRS will impose a 10-day deadline to respond with payments for its erroneous assessment while taking 60 days to answer any taxpayer’s correspondence--if ever. It would be great if, like the TRW settlement, the IRS could resolve erroneous reports in 30 days or respond in four days to a taxpayer’s request for information.
