Bombing of Pearl Harbor

Imperial County Board of Supervisors Chairman James Bucher’s remarks about “damn Japs” who are “trying to take this country over” are another sign of the current healthy state of bigotry (Dec. 6).
Contrary to what we sometimes would like to believe, racism is not confined to David Duke’s South; it’s evident in positions of public influence here in California. Bucher is a bigot who should not be allowed to continue to use public office as a breeding ground for racial hatred.
