American Drug to Buy CVS Stores: American Drug Stores Inc. announced that it will buy 63 drug stores and 22 health and beauty aid stores from the CVS division of Melville Corp. The stores are operated as Consumer Value Stores in Southern California. The acquisition is expected to be finalized in February. American Drug Stores is a subsidiary of American Stores Co. and operates two divisions--Osco Drug, headquartered in Oak Brook, Ill., which operates 257 drug stores and 225 combination drug stores with Jewel Food Stores in 22 states, and Sav-on Drug, headquartered in Anaheim, which operates 221 drug stores in California, Nevada and Arizona.
