Cal/OSHA to Regulate Bungee Jumping: Before bungee jumpers can take the first bounce, state inspectors must check the bungee and crane for safety and issue a state permit, authorities are now saying. Cal/OSHA, the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health, has decided that bungee jumping is an amusement ride and therefore subject to the same regulations as portable rides. The inspection requirement covers bungee jumping from cranes, hot air balloons and platforms. Since most bungee jumping is being done from cranes, state regulations on crane operations must also be followed.
