California IN BRIEF : GARDEN GROVE : Study Fails to Link Office, Cancer Cases

A new study of a possible cancer cluster at a Pacific Bell office failed to link a basement work area and a high incidence of the disease among employees who work there. The study is the second by researchers at the Cancer Surveillance Program at UC Irvine since 1989. Dr. Hoda Anton-Culver, program director, said the workers are suffering from different kinds of cancer, making a single cause unlikely. Employees have contracted breast, lung, cervical, testicular and thyroid cancer. Other factors could be responsible, the doctor added. The workers who developed lung cancer all smoked.
