The Coast Guard cutter Chase steamed into the Port of Los Angeles Friday on a mission to enforce laws on the Pacific high seas and off the coast of Alaska, officials said.
The vessel is the second 378-foot, high-endurance cutter to relocate here from Boston, joining the Hamilton, which arrived in July, said Petty Officer Jamie Devitt. “The moves are designed primarily to bolster the Coast Goard’s foreign fisheries law enforcement efforts,” Devitt said. “But the cutters will also work in the fields of drug law enforcement, search and rescue, defense readiness and marine environmental protection.”
Up to 15 officers and 162 enlisted men and women are on the Chase, she said.
