OXNARD : Bid to Shut City Hall on Fridays Weighed
- Share via
Starting Jan. 10, Oxnard City Hall would be closed to the public on Fridays and stay open an extra hour on other weekdays under a plan that the City Council will consider Tuesday.
The plan, which was conceptually approved in July, would help the city comply with a state mandate to reduce morning traffic. It would also increase efficiency at the workplace, city officials said.
State Rule 210 requires that large employers such as city governments reduce the number of trips to work between 6 and 10 a.m. weekdays to reduce pollution.
Under the city proposal, City Hall would stay open Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It now closes at 5 p.m.
Most employees would work four 10-hour days. Other employees, including building inspectors and top administrators, would continue working five days a week.
