A Forfeit to Gangs: Was It Cowardice or the Right Move?

Thank you, Mike Downey, for finally speaking up in support of the athletes, coaches, administrators, parents and students of Banning High. Rather than being chastised and ridiculed by the “city fathers,” these people should be respected and commended for their stance. They have put the safety of their children and themselves above Chief Gates’ and Councilman Holden’s political football.
How will Gates and Holden react when in their bravado they “stand in the middle of the field to take the bullet.” How will they react when the bullet misses them and takes the life of a student, athlete, coach or spectator? “I’m sorry,” will not be adequate.
