Brain-Dead Woman Gives Birth, Dies

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A woman declared brain dead six weeks ago delivered a healthy baby and died soon after when she was taken off life-support machines, a hospital spokesman said.
Tracy Bucher, 31, gave birth Monday by Cesarean section to a 4-pound, 11-ounce boy at St. Joseph’s Hospital, spokesman Bob Vaccarelli said. Doctors disconnected Bucher’s life support immediately after the birth, he said.
Bucher suffered a cerebral hemorrhage six weeks ago when she was about 6 1/2 months pregnant.
