COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NATION : Pitt to Appeal NCAA Ruling on Leon
- Share via
Pittsburgh plans to appeal the NCAA ruling that punter Kevin Leon must sit out the rest of this season and the first four games in 1992.
The NCAA said Leon has only one year of eligibility left instead of the equivalent of two seasons, although he has played in only 11 games in two years.
Leon’s ineligibility stemmed from a tryout he had in 1989 as a walk-on at UCLA. He left UCLA without enrolling and attended Fullerton College.
Leon enrolled at Pitt last winter before earning an associate degree. Under NCAA rules, Leon is considered a double transfer and needed the two-year degree to be eligible this season.
Leon punted in Pitt’s first four games until the questions arose.
