Floating Casino Tentatively OKd: Players International Inc. in Calabasas said it received preliminary approval from the Illinois Gaming Board to operate a riverboat casino based in Metropolis, Ill., on the Ohio River. Players, which mainly operates a club providing gamblers with entertainment discounts, still must address such items as the boat’s construction and ticketing facilities before getting final approval. Players hopes its riverboat casino will reach a potential audience of 6 million adults living within 200 miles of Metropolis. Separately, Players said it is reviewing whether to change the accounting for costs related to its Players Club memberships.
