New Allergy Treatment: Biomerica Inc. has announced that its subsidiary was issued a patent on a new biotech method for treating allergies. The approach uses a liposome, which encapsulates an allergen--the material to which a patient is allergic--in the patient’s body. The process shortens the amount of time that a patient must receive desensitization injections, which now generally takes three to five years. It may increase the effectiveness of allergy treatments 15-fold, the Newport Beach company said, combatting nasal inflammation, asthma and skin diseases.
