County Social Workers Approve New Contract

Los Angeles County social workers on Wednesday approved a new three-year contract that will give the 2,455 county employees a 3% raise next July and possibly another 6% hike by the following year, a union spokesman said.
Phil Ansell, a spokesman for Service Employees International Union, Local 535, said three bargaining units of social workers ratified their new labor pacts by margins of more than 80%.
The new contract limits the size of caseloads for children’s social workers, effective next July. The county also agreed to give “equal pay for comparable work” for children’s social workers, most of whom are women.
