ANAHEIM — Savanna High’s Jeff Ragos scored two touchdowns and gained 214 yards in 23 carries to help the Rebels defeat Cypress, 37-17, in a nonleague football game at Western High School Thursday night.
Ragos broke two tackles and ran over the middle for his first score, a 17-yarder with 4 minutes 44 seconds remaining in the second quarter. With 3:50 left in the third quarter, the senior running back shook off three tackles to score from the Cypress 37-yard line.
Curtiss Morris also scored twice for Savanna (2-1), on runs of 16 and nine yards. He also gained 102 of the Rebels’ 373 yards rushing. John Cho’s interception of a pass by Cypress’ Brad Belanger at the Cypress 19 set up Morris’ 16-yard run.
Savanna’s defense held Cypress to minus-11 yards rushing on 12 carries. Wes Merriweather provided the bright moment for Cypress (1-2) when a missed tackle by Savanna’s defensive line allowed him to return a kickoff 91 yards to tie the game, 7-7, with 8:03 left in the first quarter.
