COSTA MESA — A 36-year-old man was killed early Sunday when a car driven by his younger brother swerved into an electric power pole.
Julian Antonio Marquez, 26, of Costa Mesa was driving south on Bristol Street near Bear Street shortly before 2 a.m., police said. Witnesses told police he was weaving in and out of traffic and changing lanes at 60 to 70 m.p.h. when he lost control of the car and it struck the pole.
His brother, Luis Morales Marquez, also of Costa Mesa, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene.
The younger Marquez suffered major injuries and was in guarded condition Sunday at UCI Medical Center in Orange. He was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.
