DEL MAR : Rum Isle Wins Turf Feature

DEL MAR — Rum Isle took the lead in midstretch and went on to win Thursday’s $36,000 feature at Del Mar by 1 1/4 lengths over Boldly Excellent.
Rum Isle, ridden by Gary Stevens and carrying 118 pounds, covered one mile on Del Mar’s turf course in 1:36 and paid $16, $7.20 and $5.40.
The victory was the second in six lifetime starts for Rum Isle, a 3-year-old son of Skywalker, and was worth $19,800, raising the colt’s lifetime earnings to $44,570.
Boldly Excellent, ridden by Patrick Valenzuela and carrying 119 pounds, crossed the finish line a half-length ahead of King Turk and returned $5.40 and $4.20. King Turk, ridden by Frank Alvarado and carrying 118 pounds, was a neck in front of Truce Flag at the wire and paid $7.20 to show.
