When the U.S. shooting team went looking for a designer for its new Olympic center in Colorado Springs, Colo., it found one right under its nose.
A member of the team, Bill Dodd, holds a degree in landscape architecture from West Virginia. Dodd, 25, combined his knowledge of architecture with his knowledge of the sport--he is a world record-holder in prone shooting to design the outdoor facility.
Dodd is no admirer of the Prado-Tiro Range in Chino, which is the only shooting venue in the United States that currently meets international specifications.
“Prado was built as a temporary site for the 1984 Olympics,” he said. “And we have to fix it up every time we use it.”
