KIEV : G-7 Warm-Up for Gorby
Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev on Friday will give Germany’s Chancellor Helmut Kohl a preview of the economic reform program he will present in London 12 days later to leaders of the Group of Seven major industrial democracies.
The two will meet outside the Ukrainian capital with talks focusing on the deeply troubled Soviet economy. Germany is the Soviet Union’s largest source of loans, trade credits and aid, and Gorbachev is anxious to line up Kohl’s support before the London meeting.
Also on the agenda: the crisis in Yugoslavia, seen as a crucial test for the new Europe.
