World IN BRIEF : COLOMBIA : Envoy Offers to Quit Over Drug Policy

Colombia’s ambassador to Switzerland has offered to resign after attacking his government’s policy of offering lenient terms to drug-traffickers who surrender, the Foreign Ministry said in Bogota. But the government rejected the offer of Ambassador Enrique Parejo out of fear for his safety. Parejo, who is under threat of death from drug traffickers, is a hard-line former justice minister who was shot five times in an assassination attempt in Budapest in 1987.
