Senior Citizens’ Bus Fare Hike
The Commentary by Van A. France misses the point. Many of us involved in senior advocacy do not benefit from economic decisions such as the maintenance of existing levels of bus fares for seniors.
We are concerned and work for the economic well-being of the frail and low-income senior representing 15% of the total and finding it hard to cope with inflation. Predominantly, the remaining 85% do not ride public conveyances.
The seniors supported Measure M with the promise that fares for seniors would be stabilized for a reasonable period of time.
I would suggest that Mr. Van France drop 20 cents and 50 cents in the fare box to ease his conscience.
