William A. McCarty-Cooper, 53, an interior designer who after his adoption by British art historian and collector Douglas Cooper in 1972 devoted most of his life to Cooper’s collection of Cubist art. After Cooper died in 1981, McCarty-Cooper made the rare collection available to scholars and museums, recently at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. In Los Angeles on May 30 of the complications of AIDS.
