The New York-New Jersey Knights qualified for the World League of American Football playoffs, defeating the San Antonio Riders, 38-9, to capture the North American East Division title with a 5-5 record. The Knights earned the right to play the London Monarchs (9-0) next Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J., for a berth in the World Bowl in England on June 9.
Mike Elkins and Carl Parker combined on two short touchdown passes as Sacramento beat Frankfurt, 24-13. To clinch a playoff spot, Frankfurt must await a Monday game between Barcelona and London. If Barcelona (7-2) wins, it will get the playoff spot instead of Frankfurt (7-3).
Playoff-bound Birmingham (5-5) took advantage of seven turnovers and poor special teams play by Raleigh-Durham (0-10) for a 28-7 victory.
