A Port Hueneme man pleaded guilty Thursday to vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol in the death of a friend three months ago.
The charge against Rizalito E. Castillejo, 25, stemmed from an accident on Bard Road in Oxnard on the evening of Feb. 16. A witness at the preliminary hearing testified that Castillejo passed her at a high rate of speed, ran a stop sign and then lost control of his car on a curve. The car flipped over and knocked down a fence before landing on its wheels.
A passenger, Armel V. Solomon, was killed. A police investigator testified that Castillejo’s blood alcohol level was 0.20%, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%
The charge carries a prison term of up to four years. Ventura County Superior Court Judge Steven Z. Perren scheduled sentencing for June 21.
