Arafat Urges Israeli Activist to End Fast

JERUSALEM — PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat has appealed to Israeli peace activist Abie Nathan to end the fast he began 21 days ago to protest an Israeli law barring contacts with the Palestine Liberation Organization. But Nathan, 64, a popular broadcaster, told reporters Friday that he is determined to carry on.
In a letter sent from Tunis, Arafat praised Nathan’s struggle but said it is more important that the activist stay alive. Nathan was taken to a hospital earlier this week suffering from an irregular heartbeat, but he resumed his hunger strike.
