ANAHEIM : Playground to Be Dedicated Today

A long-awaited play area for children who live in the Jeffrey-Lynne neighborhood near Disneyland will be dedicated today by residents and community leaders who worked on the project.
Called Audre Plaza, the park includes two basketball half-courts, tetherball courts, swings, four-square courts and hopscotch areas.
Residents have been lobbying for the play area for about three years.
The city used $50,000 in federal funds to create the park, which involved closing Audre Drive.
Earlier this week, the city accepted a $6,300 gift from Disneyland to help plant 21 trees and build an activity course at the park that utilizes footprints from various Disney characters.
The park will operate as a pilot program for one year, and may be closed if it becomes a hangout for the drug dealers and gang members who once plagued the area.
Neighbors are organizing parental supervision for the park. The Anaheim Police Department operates a substation from an apartment nearby.
The dedication is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature Latino food and music.
