A 4-year-old boy who was playing with his sister on a concrete fountain died Friday after part of the fountain broke off and fell on him, police said.
John Dutriz of Irvine was rushed to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead, said Lt. Michael White.
The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in the back yard of the boy’s home on Windflower in Irvine, White said.
Dutriz was playing with his 7-year-old sister on a 3-foot-high concrete fountain, when he apparently fell to the ground and a piece of the fountain crashed on top of him, White said.
The child was unconscious when police arrived, White said. Police said the cause of death appeared to be from head injuries.
