Appeals Court Rejects Bid to Block Redevelopment

A state appeals court turned down a request by a coalition of Hollywood residents to block a $922-million redevelopment project in the area, city officials said Friday.
The 2nd District Court of Appeal upheld the actions of the Community Redevelopment Agency and the city of Los Angeles in their 1986 approval of the project, which covers more than 1,100 acres.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a Hollywood residents group known as Save Hollywood Our Town. The action was taken three months after the City Council’s April 30, 1986, approval of the project. The group challenged the enactment of the redevelopment plan and sought to reduce the size of the project to prevent overdevelopment of high-rise buildings in the area.
