BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Pirates Acquire Webster From Indians, Get Pitcher

Associated Press

The Pittsburgh Pirates, who have been seeking a reserve outfielder for weeks, obtained switch-hitter Mitch Webster from the Cleveland Indians for minor league pitcher Mike York. Webster, 32, was added to the Pirates’ 25-man roster and outfielder Jeff Schulz was returned to triple-A Buffalo. York, who was pitching for Buffalo, was assigned to the Indians’ triple-A club in Colorado Springs. Cleveland then activated first baseman Brook Jacoby off the 15-day disabled list. Jacoby has been on the disabled list since May 4 with a slight tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

First baseman Glenn Davis of the Baltimore Orioles must undergo at least three more weeks of therapy before he can take batting practice. Davis, obtained in an off-season trade with the Houston Astros, stretched a nerve in his neck on March 12.
