Streaking Richardson Lifts CSUN to Win With Tie-Breaking Single

There have been few low moments in Scott Richardson’s two-year college baseball career. Nevertheless, the Cal State Northridge second baseman seems intent on wiping away whatever memories linger of his darkest day as a Matador.
Richardson on Sunday delivered a two-run, seventh-inning single to break a 2-2 tie and lift CSUN (38-15-1) to a 4-2 win over Grand Canyon University at Northridge. The hit capped a six-game streak that has seen Richardson bat a sizzling .542 with four doubles, a triple and eight runs batted in.
The streak began after Richardson committed a key error in a 10-inning loss to Long Beach State last month.
“He’s been a different player since Long Beach,” CSUN Coach Bill Kernen said. “That game has really turned around his season.”
Richardson’s hit made a winner of Craig Clayton (12-4), who struck out 12 in pitching his 13th complete game of the season.
Mike Sims led the Matadors’ 10-hit attack with two hits and an RBI, but every player contributed at least one hit to the cause.
Doug Kimball (4-7) took the loss for Grand Canyon (23-36).
