4,500 Turnout Makes Times Real Estate Fair Largest in U.S.

About 4,500 people attended The Times’ Home Buyers and Sellers Fair at the Shrine Exposition Hall on May 4, making it the largest event of its type held in the United States.
The record turnout at the Shrine fair, the last of two fairs The Times has sponsored this year, brought the attendance for the 1991 fairs to 7,800. The first fair was April 20 at the Anaheim Convention Center and drew 3,300 people.
The fairs featured a full day of consumer-advice workshops for home buyers, sellers and real estate investors, as well as more than 50 exhibitors, including lenders, realtors, home builders and several government housing agencies.
The Times began holding the fairs in 1990. Several other newspapers around the country, including the San Francisco Examiner, San Diego Union and Miami Herald, sponsor similar consumer-oriented home fairs.
