Pakistan to Try to Snuff Out Smoking Habits

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan’s ruling Islamic coalition is proposing legislation to curb the nicotine habit in this impoverished nation of 120 million people, where about three-quarters of the adult population lights up.
Under the proposed laws unveiled last week, smoke would be cleared from government meeting rooms, cigarette advertising would be curtailed and cigarette packages would carry health warnings for the first time.
