Two San Diego city school students have been awarded $500 scholarships as first-year winners in the Coca-Cola for Scholastic Achievement program, a new effort to reward student efforts in the classroom.

Trang Ho, a Kearny High School senior who plans to attend the University of San Diego next year, and Esmeralda Nava, a Point Loma High School senior who plans to attend Stanford University or Cal Tech, were honored Friday night by the soft drink company.

The new program is an effort by Coke to extend its well-known logo to academics as well as high-school athletic programs.
