La Verne : The Name Game

The City Council decided last week that Oak Mesa Park is an acceptable name for a north La Verne park site if the name is acceptable to the Bonita Unified School District board.
The Parks and Human Services Commission recommended the name Rancho La Verne Park for the park, which is next to the as-yet-unnamed elementary school at Wheeler Avenue and Oak Mesa Drive.
But school board member Diana Au said many residents say that name would link the park too closely with the nearby Rancho La Verne housing development. She proposed that the park be called Oak Mesa, the name of a nearby street.
